DC's community living room. We reflect the eclecticism of our nation's capital by redefining the American cafe culture.

Tryst is known for having huge lounging sofas, eclectic art on the walls, with no corporate coffee and no matching silverware. You can stop by for a quick cup on your way to work, or you can lounge all day with a great book. Our specialty coffees and menus are favorites for regulars and tourists, and we’re famous for always serving two animal crackers with each drink.

We’re right in the center of the Adams Morgan neighborhood of DC, and we’ve proudly been a part of the community since 1998.

We build meaningful connections, one animal cracker at a time.

Featured Artists & Musicians

We're excited to support local artists with rotating visual displays and musical performances throughout the year. This month, visit us anytime to see Tara Good’s art displayed throughout the cafe and join us on music Mondays from 6:30-9:00pm for a live performance by Lew Calico.

  • Tara Good is self-taught artist living in the nation’s capital.

A California native, she received her B.A. from Fordham University in Theater Performance and International/Inter-cultural Studies. After working professionally in New York theater, she received her M.A. from New York University in Performance Studies.

She subsequently received the U.S. State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship two years in a row to study Arabic in Jordan and Oman.

Currently, her day job is lobbying Capitol Hill on behalf of the American wine industry. When she is not painting, she is working on her first novel: a YA retelling of Hansel and Gretel set during the German Reformation.

Tara’s work is influenced by the literal and proverbial landscapes of Washington D.C. While social justice often motivates her work, she also explores natural landscapes and the cross-sections therein. She experiments with styles, from naturalism to the abstract, in search of the place between.
